What
is Invisalign®?
Invisalign® is an advanced method of orthodontic treatment
that straightens teeth with the use of a series of clear aligners.
The aligners are designed to fit very close to the teeth, and
are made of thin medical-grade plastic that is virtually invisible
when worn.
Because of the amount of experience Dr. Mangan has acquired
and his commitment to orthodontic continuing education, he has
achieved the status of an Invisalign® Premier Provider.
That places him in the top 5% of Invisalign® Practitioners
in North America. Dr. Mangan has treated some amazing cases,
which you can see in the before and after photos provided below.
How Does Invisalign®
Work?
After taking impressions of your teeth, we
use Invisalign's advanced 3-D computer imaging technology to
create a series of clear aligners. Each set of aligners will
gradually move your teeth into the desired alignment.
How Often Must I Wear the Aligners?
Each aligners is typically worn for a two
week period, 24 hours a day, except when eating, brushing and
flossing. Every two weeks you will change to the next set of
aligners and will continue this process throughout the duration
of your treatment.
The average treatment length is 12 months.
What are the Benefits of Invisalign®?
- Effective –
Invisalign® really works. Teeth move into the ideal position
just like with traditional wires and brackets, only the aligners
exert the force on the teeth rather than wires.
- Comfortable –
No brackets to tear up the inside of your mouth, and no wires
to poke or come loose. And because changes in position occur
in smaller, more frequent steps you avoid the pain usually
associated with changing out wires in traditional braces.
- Nearly Invisible
– They’re nearly invisible and the majority
of people won't even notice you are wearing them. That means
you won’t have unsightly wires and metal brackets.
- Removable -
They are removable, so you can brush and floss normally, which
can help prevent tooth decay and gum disease. Traditional
braces are hard to clean, and flossing is even worse.
- Eating -
Because the aligners are removable you can eat and drink what
you want. You have none of the limitations of traditional
wires and brackets orthodontics.
- Better Hygiene
- Cleanings are quicker and easier than with traditional
orthodontics.
- Gum Health -
Your gum health may improve. Research has shown that periodontal
tissue health may improve with the use of Invisalign®
Aligners during your orthodontic treatment.
Does Invisalign® Hurt?
When the very first Invisalign®
aligner is placed most patients report a soreness that is mild
to moderate, and is usually managed with over the counter medicines
like Advil®, Aleve®, or Tylenol®. That soreness
usually lasts 1-2 days. After the first aligner, each subsequent
change gives a “tight” sensation that is usually
not painful, and goes away in about a day.
Another advantage of Invisalign®
is that unlike traditional braces it has no sharp edges. The
Invisalign® aligners are smooth plastic aligners, which
are not abrasive to the inside of your mouth. Much of the soreness
of traditional braces is from wires and brackets that poke.
Not so with Invisalign®.
How Much Does Invisalign® Cost?
We have found that our treatment cost
for Invisalign® is comparable to the cost of traditional
braces, if not lower. However, depending on your exact treatment
needs, costs can vary. It is advisable to let Dr. Mangan give
you a free evaluation so you can know exactly what treatment
will cost.
